THIS WEEK’S FOCUS: The on-going attack on Women!
Our topic this week is women’s issues. This includes important issues such as contraception and family planning, abortion rights, equal pay, equal access in careers and sports, prevention of sexual assaults, prevention of gun violence and including a seat at the table. We care about healthcare for our children, childcare for working families, and equal access to educational opportunities, and having a voice in our governance. The idea of seating a spoiled, unqualified daughter of the President at global or important economic events is just as abhorrent as the failure to seat a qualified woman in the Senate, Supreme Court, or any job for which she is qualified, including the Presidency.
The sexist orientation of the current administration is disgusting and archaic, offensive to both men and women of integrity, common sense and decency and harmful to the security and well-being of this nation.
In the past month, U.S. House of Representatives has allowed C.H.I.P. funding for nine million children and pregnant women to lapse, passed a budget that guts funding for Medicaid & Medicare and passed a bill the makes abortion after 20wks a criminal offence. The White House announced just last week that health insurers will no longer have to comply with the mandate to cover birth control.
The GOP Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has reversed an order implemented to address sexual assault on college campuses. President of University of California system & Former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said this would “in effect weaken sexual violence protections, prompt confusion among campuses about how best to respond to reports of sexual violence and sexual harassment, and unravel the progress that so many schools have made”
As of Sept 12, 2017, only 1 of the 42 people nominated for U.S. Attorney are women. According to Wikipedia, all appointments of Federal Judges have been men. In fact, according to Mother Jones, 80% of all people requiring approval by the Senate have been men.
Our voices are being silenced, our bodies are being regulated and our health is put at risk by the leadership in Washington DC.
Women on are under attack in America.
Look for us at the corner of Market and High. We will protest outside as a large group; then rotate into the office in small groups to speak with staff and deliver letters, if permitted.
If you cannot attend, email your letter to us at contact@ccag-d6.com and we will hand deliver it for you.
*We would like to remind all participants to be calm and polite with staff members. That being said, these encounters are a two way street. If you personally experience issues with the staff (feeling intimidated or belittled) report to Claire at the event or contact us at: contact@ccag-d6.com
