Please save the date and join CCPM as we commemorate International Day of Peace “Peace Day” on Thursday, September 21 with a candlelight vigil including speakers and musical performances starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Chester County Court House steps, Market and High Streets, in downtown West Chester.
Peace Day was established in 1981 by the United Nations as an annual observance of global non-violence and ceasefire. In 2002, the General Assembly of the UN declared September 21 as the permanent date for International Day of Peace. This year’s peace day will focus on “hate has no home here” and the plight of war refugees and migrants, which is estimated at 10.1 million people between Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan.
“In times of insecurity, communities that look different become convenient scapegoats. We must resist cynical efforts to divide communities… discrimination diminishes us all…Together, let us stand up against bigotry and for human rights. Together, let us build bridges. Together, let us transform fear into hope.” UN Secretary-General General António Guterres, 2017 International Day of Peace
Let’s come together to share our common humanity and observe Peace Day on September 21st!
